MADAME KLEIN'S

SCHOOL FOR POSSESSED GIRLS
Among humans walk the Thion, entities from Down Below that have made their way to our realm to inhabit our bodies. No one knows why they pick vessels other than so they can physically interact with our world, jumping from generation to generation to perpetuate their existence. Monsters and possessed people are widespread knowledge, but it's not something you see on the evening news every night. The girls who are possessed know about it, their families know about it, the victims of possessed boys and monsters know about it, but in some places they're still just a rumor.

Madame Klein's School for Possessed Girls, situated in France's countryside, is pretty much the only place in the world that caters to the needs of these girls. In most countries, possessed girls are either institutionalized, or try to get a priest to exorcise them. While people know it's a reality, they are still lacking a lot of correct information about it.

It is unknown what makes a girl or boy eligible to these creatures and not many studies have been conducted to better understand what is going on. If you're chosen, you're chosen and that's it. There are ways to know if a girl is really possessed or if it's something else - a ritual that draws out the creature for communication, or a demonstration of its power. Their powers can manifest in one of many ways. Each creature should have an unique name and ability, even an unique personality.

These creatures basically drain the energy out of their vessels, so a girl without treatment will die of exhaustion/insomnia/self-harm/etc. This is what the school provides - a way to control your creature, a way to access their power without letting it drain you of yours. Boys simply don't have the strength to be vessels, so when a monster picks them, they're are guaranteed to die within months. Their death isn't permanent, however; they come back as something worse, a mutation between human and the remnants of darkness left behind by the creature. They're undead beings with monstrous features and a hunger for human flesh and destruction. Once one of these creatures is attached to a body, they cannot leave it until the body dies.

So what is Madame Klein's School for Possessed Girls? A haven, you could say. A military school for girls to fight against these creatures and the monsters they create. A research facility to learn more about what's happening to them and the ones they love. There is no cure for possession, only treatment; they make this clear from the get-go to the families that leave their daughters with Madame Klein.

The girls are given a proper education, with a side of self-defense and power manipulation to learn how to fight for themselves and against the dangers of Down Below. The girls learn how to control their creatures, how to win their favor and make it bow to them. Powers vary from one to the other, from girl to girl, so no one possession is exactly the same. Some girls suffer more with their identity's dissonance than others, and some monsters are simply too powerful to be controlled. Some of them take over control of a girl's body completely.

Monsters cannot be wiped from existence, but they can be contained. The school guards a vast collection of stones and jars with trapped monsters in them. No one knows what spurs more of them into existence, no one knows how to completely wipe them. For now.

You could say the school is also part religious - but they pray to a different entity. It is a symbol of enlightenment, the one they send lost souls to once they are destroyed. It is said that this god walks among us as well, jumping from body to body. Madame Klein has dedicated her life to finding Its vessel, believing that he or she will bring salvation to them all: a cure.
LUX ETHIER

AND THE THION EYGR
Lux was born and set up to be a nice religious girl, devout parents and their varying levels of equally devoted children living as peacefully as a family could. Their youngest daughter seemed to be the less troublemaking one, against all odds, quiet and content to enjoy hobbies by her lone self. Colorful insects fascinated her and she couldn't resist petting any critter with fur; reptiles deserved her attentive stare and birds were fragile things that she longed for. Lux couldn't resist the smell of roses and never turned out strawberries, no matter how full she was or if they were out of season. These were details that her family picked up on and didn't quite know what to do with, so they were simply deemed harmless little quirks, left alone for as long as they remained — well, harmless.

They weren't the only quirks, of course. The girl also liked how knives reflected light, and had a special reverence for the sharpest ones, as though they were a work of art shaped by nature, not man. Perhaps the true sign that a god existed, given how often they made an appearance in His stories. Death was another natural event to be observed, just like reptiles, just like birds, thoughts and imagination racing to predict her own death, or to write a wishlist of the ways she'd like to go.

Lux was weird and didn't realize how lonely she was until someone pointed it out with concern, only to be given a shrug in response. The way to win her compliance was to warn her that what she was doing — or saying — would upset her father or mother. Days of heavy rain were her least favorite because she'd be stuck inside staring only at other people. None of her siblings really interested her; sometimes it felt as though they were only guests in the house, rather than a part of the household. Some still tried to have a relationship with her until the end.

The end happened in a forest. The Ethiers were visiting Lux's grandparents in the countryside, where they lived in a cottage that hid a massive forest in the backyard. The perfect place for Lux to wander and stare at her favorite creatures, despite her parents' warning to not wander too far. She didn't mean to do it — one step took her further than the other, and before she knew it, the forest felt too quiet and the sky felt even more distance than it had her entire life. Maybe she'd just gotten smaller, maybe the world was suddenly too big. An attempt to make her way back landed her in front of a stone with strange carvings, lovingly held by moss and crawling insects like they were visiting an old friend. Lux had just found a new thing to be fascinated by, and after reaching out to touch it, the world went dark.

She woke up a month later in a strange new place, surrounded by strange new faces. Her parents were there too. After seeing them, Lux realized she'd been tied to a bed. A tall woman stood next to it in pretty clothes, soothing her, telling her she'd be all right now. That was the day she learned she'd been possessed by a Thion, that they'd spent weeks trying to save her from it, and finally been brought to Madame Klein to salvage any part of Lux that was left. They never told her what the Thion had used its vessel for. From then on, Lux had to understand that she wouldn't be seeing her family as often, and that the rest of her young life would be spent in Madame Klein's school for girls like her, learning how to control the Thion and the abilities that it had given her. Grief and confusion took over for weeks, realizing now how lonely she truly was.

Training took place alongside regular classes. Lux adapted quickly, communicating with her Thion often, placing all the fascination she'd had for animals into perfecting her brand new psychic powers. Telepathy, telekinesis, mind control — she had it all, and she was told she should want to use it all, so she did. Entering her young adult life, Lux excels at what she does, and has taken on the mission to hunt down Thions that have possessed boys, as well as save the girls who still have a fighting chance. Kind, imaginative, curious, Lux is an independent hunter who knows when to be giving and when to be ruthless, often leaning on her abilities and treating the Thion Eygr as one of the animals that she loved to observe so much. This one just lives in her head and wants to see the end of humanity, is all.
POWERS

& ABILITIES
PSYCHIC POWERS. - Telekinesis (can move objects, can manipulate bodies so that she or you can fly), telepathy, mind reading (active thoughts, knowledge and memories, all like reading a book rather than something she takes in as her own), light mind control (makes your body move but you're aware of it), projecting images and feelings into your mind, empathy, can inhabit an animal or person's body while hers remains catatonic, can create minor illusions that only the affected person(s) can see.

WEAKNESSES. - Despite everything she can do, Lux doesn't really have a lot of proficiency in protecting her own mind. Others with psychic abilities can likely affect her as well as any other regular person. The more she uses her power, the weaker she becomes against the Thion Eygr, which might alter her behavior until she stops and 'recharges' her defenses against It. The ability to inhabit other bodies renders hers completely inactive, needing someone to watch over her. If she leaves her body for too long, she also risks it being taken over by Eygr. It still happens every now and then, and Eygr causes as much trouble as It can before It's shot back into Its mind prison.
